Lawn Aeration in Spicer, MN

Lawn Aeration

Lawn aeration involves the removal of small soil plugs. Aerating your lawn is vital in reducing soil compaction. Soil compaction reduces the turf’s ability to put on deep roots, reduces the amount of water soil can absorb, thus limiting nutrients and air circulation.

By performing core aeration, you enhance soil’s water uptake, reduce runoff and puddling, improve air exchange, improve fertilizer utilization, increase turfs ability to put on deep, strong roots, reduce the amount of watering, promote thatch breakdown, replenishment soils organic layer, and improve overall resiliency.

Seasonal aeration is recommended for heavily used lawn and lawns with soils prone to natural compaction, such as clay-based soils.

Organic Lawn Aeration and fertilizer

Organic Aeration

We have recently added an organic microbial aeration application, as an alternative to the mechanical aeration process. We relieve soil compaction without disturbing the surface of your lawn for better root development, nutrient, and water uptake. If you did not aerate your lawn last year or chose not to because of the inconvenience or mess caused by mechanical aeration, organic aeration could be the answer. C20 soil builder product is environmentally friendly, all-natural, and produced from renewable resources.

Lawn Dethatching in Spicer, MN

Spring and Fall Dethatching

Thatch is an accumulation of lawn clippings that build up over time when microbes cannot break them down fast enough. Lawn dethatching is necessary when a heavy layer of thatch builds up. This will deteriorate your lawn by creating a barrier that prevents water and vital nutrients from reaching your lawn’s roots system. Thick thatch layers can also promote disease and insect problems. Our technicians can come out during the growing season to dethatch, bag, and haul away your excess lawn clippings.

Crabgrass Control Applications

Crabgrass is an annual grass that grows from seed each season. The crabgrass plant naturally dies every fall, leaving behind thousands of seeds. Population growth becomes exponential each season if left untreated. If you have a crabgrass problem, it is imperative to sign up for a Crabgrass Pre-Emergent application to prevent seeds from germinating. Typically you will start seeing crabgrass germinate at the beginning of June or when the soil temperature warms up enough to be suitable for germination. Crabgrass does well in full sun. Keeping an eye out in those thin hot spots, high traffic areas, and along driveways and sidewalks. Keep in mind, if you plan on seeding your lawn during the growing season, do not sign up for the pre-emergent, as this product does not know the difference between desirable and non-desirable grass seeds. Tree N’ Turf Service, Inc. offers 3 different optional crabgrass control applications, including:

Crabgrass Pre-Emergent and Fertilizer

Crabgrass Pre-Emergent and Fertilizer (April – May) application is a well balanced fertilizer with crabgrass pre-emergent that can be applied either in liquid or granular form. You should expect to get 85 to 95% control of your crabgrass.

Crabgrass Pre-Emergent, Broadleaf Weed Control and Fertilizer

Crabgrass Pre-Emergent, Broadleaf Weed Control and Fertilizer (April – May) is our 3-way application applied either in liquid or granular form. We will be applying a well balanced fertilizer with crabgrass pre-emergent. You should expect to get 85 to 95% control of your crabgrass. Along with the pre-emergent will we include a liquid broad spectrum weed control, good for combating dandelions and other broadleaf perennial weeds.

Crabgrass Post-Emergent

Crabgrass Post-Emergent application is applied when your crabgrass has germinated and is actively growing. We apply this before the plant has a chance to go to seed and repopulate the following year. This becomes an important addition to the pre-emergent applications to clean up the 5-15% of seeds that can germinate. This is also a good application if you or our applicators notice crabgrass coming up for the first time. This will help prevent establishment in your lawn. This application is completed by spot spraying crabgrass plants only.
